Baby Devin is moving up!
Baby Devin has had a busy two and half weeks since our last post! He's made significant improvement with his lungs! He is completely off oxygen support, and has been doing well without it! For a while we thought we would be coming home with oxygen, but his lungs seem to be handling the change well.
Our other big news for the week is that today we moved up to "the floor". This is the next step out of the ICU, before we can head home. While we are glad to be closer to home, we have really developed quite a team and family in the CVICU these past 10 weeks. They have been Devin's advocates, his friends, and loved on him and helped get him to where we are, so I may have cried leaving them behind today. We will stop by to visit when we are around though! So a big THANK YOU to all of those on D3. Devin loves and appropriates you so much!!
While we are SO close to going home, we know there are always any number of things that could keep us here. So please pray that Devin would continue to prove, that he is ready, and that we can prove we are capable of meeting all Devin's needs when we get home. He's got a boat load of meds, and crazy feeding schedule that we cannot slide on, so we are just trading one crazy schedule, for another crazy schedule. There are also a lot of sick kids on this floor with respiratory issues and Devin happens to have a room with sick kids that are on isolation on either side of his room. If Devin were to catch a respiratory virus, it would put us back in the ICU and delay our discharge for likely weeks, so be praying that he would not catch whatever they might have. Lastly, please be praying for Devin's vocal chord. It was paralyzed again during his heart surgery back in September, and has not recovered. This is kind of scary because we cannot hear him scream or cry unless we are standing in front of him, which also means he's at a great risk to aspirate and get fluid in his lungs. He still spits ups quite a bit, so we have to be very cautious with him!
We also wanted to say a BIG Thank You to Mrs. Noel's class at Lakeland Christian Academy! I met with Mrs. Noel last week, and she handed us a basket of gift cards, letters, drawings, and lots of verses from her group of kids at school who have been in constant prayer for Devin! We have enjoyed reading your cards to him, and we’ll be saving them for him to read again someday! Also, Thank you all for the many gift cards! What a huge blessing that is to our family during this time!!! Thank you all for taking the time to write such sweet thoughtful notes, and for your prayers!!! Baby Devin will be so excited to be able to come and meet you all when he is doing much better, and can be around large groups!
Thank you all again for your prayers! Hopefully we will be home soon, and celebrating Devin's first Thanksgiving at home as a family! There is so much to be thankful for!
